If you have a septic system, you want to make sure that your septic tank is functioning optimally to keep your home running efficiently. Many people often forget about septic tanks, because they are installed underground and away from the structure of your home. However, an efficient septic tank is necessary for your sewage system to work properly.

At Capital Plumbing, we provide quality septic tank maintenance, installation, repair, and replacement services in Edmonton to keep your home operating efficiently and safely.

We understand that septic tank problems arise at inconvenient times, and we offer 24/7 support to find you a solution in a timely manner - no matter the time of day or night.

Is Your Septic Tank Failing?

Many homeowners do not notice issues with their septic tank until the issue worsens enough to cause backups or foul odours.

  • You notice slow water drainage from basins, sinks, bathtubs, and drains
  • You have water and waste backup in the home
  • You spot standing water or damp spots near the septic tank or drain field
  • You smell bad odours around the septic tank or drain field
  • You notice bright green, spongy lush grass over the septic tank or drain field, even during dry weather
  • You see patches of standing water

We offer a range septic tank maintenance, installation, and repair services, including:

  • Checking for leaks and backups
  • Inspecting for sludge and scum layers
  • Ensuring proper component operation
  • Recommending pumping schedule

Septic tank issues can cause your sewage to be released and moved into places it should not be. It may cause sewage to back up into your yard or to be backed up in pipes that bring it back into your home.

When your septic tank fails, clogs, or backs up, you may wonder what caused the issues to arise in the first place. The more you understand about proper maintenance, the more you can work to prevent these issues from occurring.

If you suspect that your septic tank is failing, contact Capital Plumbing & Heating to schedule our Septic Tank services in Edmonton today!

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions? We've got you covered! Check out our FAQ for quick answers to common queries. Need info not covered? Reach out, and we'll happily assist with any questions or concerns you have. We're here to help!
1. Which Septic Tank Is Best?
Concrete tanks are durable and heavy, but they can crack or leak over time. Fiberglass tanks are light and resistant to corrosion, but they can be damaged by heavy loads or shifting soils. Plastic tanks are also light and corrosion-resistant, but they can float or deform if not installed properly.

2. What Is the Longest Lasting Septic Tank?
Some estimates are that concrete tanks can last for 40 to 50 years, fiberglass tanks can last for 30 to 40 years, and plastic tanks can last for 25 to 35 years. Of course, these are only averages and the actual longevity of your septic tank may differ.

3. How Do I Increase Good Bacteria in My Septic Tank?
To increase good bacteria in your septic tank, you should avoid flushing or pouring anything that could kill or inhibit them, such as bleach, antibacterial soap, pesticides, or harsh chemicals. You should also limit the use of garbage disposals, as they can add too much solid waste to the tank.

4. What Is a Septic Tank and How Does It Work?
A septic tank is an underground tank that treats your home’s wastewater by separating solids and liquids. The solids form sludge and the liquids form scum, which are partly decomposed by bacteria in the tank. The effluent then leaves the tank and goes to the drain field, where it is filtered by the soil.

5. What Are the Signs That My Septic Tank Needs Pumping?
You need to pump your septic tank when it gets too full of sludge and scum, which can cause various problems. Some of the signs of a full septic tank are sewage backup, slow drains, bad smells, and standing water near the tank or drain field. You should contact a professional plumber to pump your septic tank as soon as possible.

6. What Are the Downsides of Having a Septic Tank?
A septic tank can have some drawbacks, such as high maintenance costs, environmental hazards, and low tolerance for excess water or waste. You need to inspect, pump, and repair your septic tank regularly to prevent groundwater, soil, and surface water pollution. You also need to conserve water and avoid clogging or damaging your septic system with inappropriate substances.

It has been two years and we love our John Wood water heater!Tom and his Capital Plumbing install team were quiet, efficient, friendly and cleaned up the area well following install. At the same time, all sinks had an easy-to-use shut-off valve added beneath for safety in case of water emergency, a water line for future refrigerator was installed and they threw in a new, safe hose attachment for the clothes washer to replace the aging rubber. Never even thought of it. You never want a water line to burst!

Great experience. Capital plumbing was able to get me in within 2 days whereas all other plumbing companies I called couldn't get me in until next week. I was late returning Toms call, so he took the liberty of doing an inspection on my home and flagged a couple more issues before fixing the one I called about. Really appreciate his diligence and customer service!

A couple of weeks ago Darren replaced our hot water tank after it burst. Capital was so quick to respond and Darren was very good. He helped with the flood we had from the tank. Within a few hours we had a new water tank installed. Today Daniel came back and did amazingly replacing our sump pump and cleaning our furnace and humidifier. He is very thorough and did a great job explaining our issues. Thanks Capital plumbing and heating for always being there for us and having the best employees.
